Acharya Nagarjuna University Governor proposes Buddhist Studies Centre

During the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU), Andhra Pradesh Governor and Chancellor S Abdul Nazeer proposed the establishment of a ‘Centre of Buddhist Studies’. The Governor suggested the center would serve as a fitting tribute to the 2nd-century philosopher and scholar Acharya Nagarjuna, after whom the institution is named.

Nazeer highlighted the university's growth since its formal inauguration on September 11, 1976, by former Indian President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. Originally established in 1967 as a postgraduate center of Andhra University, the institution has expanded from 10 departments and 600 students to approximately 6,000 students and 100 research scholars.

The Governor also commended the university's academic achievements, including its NAAC A+ Grade accreditation and its standing in the NIRF 2025 and QS Asia 2026 rankings. He encouraged the university community to utilize this 50-year milestone to advance innovation and entrepreneurship in alignment with national development goals.
