Achimota Court designated to handle petroleum diversion cases
The Achimota Court has been designated to adjudicate cases involving the illegal diversion of petroleum products in Ghana. This decision follows engagement between the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to establish a specialized venue for handling offenses committed by petroleum service providers.
Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, CEO of the NPA, announced the arrangement during a session with Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee. The move is intended to strengthen enforcement and accountability within the country’s downstream petroleum sector.
Under Legislative Instrument 2251, individuals convicted of diverting petroleum products face penalties including fines of 2,500 to 5,000 penalty units, imprisonment for two to five years, or both.
