Achraf Hakimi files appeal to France's top court over rape charge

Moroccan international and Paris Saint‑Germain defender Achraf Hakimi, who captains Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has lodged a cassation appeal to the French Court of Cassation. The appeal challenges a June 19 decision by the Versailles Court of Appeal that confirmed his referral to a criminal court for an alleged rape of a 24‑year‑old woman in 2023. Hakimi, who denies the accusation, described the allegation as “false”. The cassation step is the final legal avenue before a trial can proceed.

The case unfolded while Morocco is competing in the World Cup, with the team set to face the Netherlands in the round of 16. Hakimi said he is in a “very good personal and professional period” and awaits the trial “with impatience” to present his side. No trial date has been set yet. His lawyer, Me Fanny Colin, declined further comment.
