Achraf Hakimi faces rape trial in Paris court

Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint‑Germain and the Morocco national team, will stand trial in the Paris appellate court on charges of raping a 23‑year‑old French woman. The alleged assault took place in February 2023 at Hakimi’s home in Boulogne‑Billancourt. Prosecutors say Hakimi kissed the woman and then forced her to undress, subjecting her to violent acts, after which the victim sought help from a friend. Hakimi initially acknowledged meeting the woman but claimed the encounter was consensual, describing it as “an exchange of affection, embraces and kisses.”

In his statements Hakimi said, “I think I’m an easy target being a well‑known figure, I chose silence but I believe the time has come to tell the truth to protect my family, my life.” The case drew additional attention when teammate Kylian Mbappé testified, first echoing the victim’s account before later amending his statement to say no sexual violence occurred. The court rejected Hakimi’s request to avoid appearing before the judges, and the trial is proceeding as scheduled.
