Acibadem Sistina Hospital Performs First Robot-Assisted Prostatectomy
Acibadem Sistina Hospital completed its first robot‑assisted radical prostatectomy using the MedBot Toumai system on a 57‑year‑old patient. The procedure, which also included robot‑assisted laparoscopic lymphadenectomy, was led by Prof. Dr. Sotir Stavridis and involved urologists, anesthesiologists, nurses and technical staff.
The surgery was performed successfully, with the patient reported in good general health and recovering as expected. It marks the first use of robotic surgery at the hospital and a regional milestone for advanced, minimally invasive urological treatment. The robot does not operate autonomously; the surgeon controls the instruments via a specialized console, with high‑resolution 3D imaging providing precise navigation.
