Aécio Neves enters Minas Gerais Senate race with new alternates

Aécio Neves (PSDB) has re-entered the political race for the Senate in Minas Gerais, following a shift in his political positioning. To facilitate his candidacy, Gustavo Galassi (PSDB) and Marcelo Heringer (PDT) have stepped aside from their own Senate bids to serve as his first and second alternates, respectively.

Galassi, a businessman and former candidate for the Senate, will serve as the first alternate and is expected to coordinate Alexandre Kalil’s campaign in the Triângulo Mineiro region. Marcelo Heringer, a physician and brother of Federal Deputy Mário Heringer, will occupy the second alternate position.

Neves' return to the electoral scene follows his decision as national president of the PSDB not to launch a party candidate for the Minas Gerais governorship, a move that has influenced the political landscape for the upcoming elections and potentially benefited candidates aligned with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
