Sicily hosts events on AI ethics and human dignity
Various cultural and social events in Sicily have recently focused on the intersection of technology, ethics, and human dignity. In Acireale, the Diocese of Acireale and the Maria Barbagallo Foundation hosted a discussion titled ‘The magnificence of human dignity – Light of conscience, critical spirit and Artificial Intelligence’. Inspired by the encyclical ‘Magnifica Humanitas’ by Pope Leo XIV, the event featured physicist Francesco Priolo and Bishop Antonino Raspanti, who addressed the impact of AI on labor, democracy, and personal autonomy.
In Catanzaro, the XII edition of the Città Solidale Prize emphasized the theme ‘The future of AI is an ethical choice’. The ceremony recognized institutions like the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria for their commitment to AI ethics and research in telemedicine.
Other regional initiatives included the Culturelite Festival in Palermo, which explored the human challenge in a modern context, and a community awareness event in San Giovanni La Punta organized by the Lions Club Catania to provide support and information regarding Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, the Accademia d’Arte Etrusca held a concert in Catania to honor social workers and medical professionals.
