Guanajuato Governor faces protests over Solís-León Aqueduct

During the 500th anniversary celebrations of Acámbaro, Guanajuato, Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo faced protests from the ‘No Al Acueducto en la Presa Solís’ movement. Demonstrators displayed banners and chanted slogans rejecting the ‘Agua para Guanajuato’ project, expressing concerns regarding its impact on the Solís dam, the Lerma River, and local communities.

Governor García Muñoz Ledo defended the Solís-León Aqueduct as a priority for both the state and the federal government, noting it is included in the National Water Plan. She stated that the project aims to guarantee water supply for León and the industrial corridor. While she offered to establish a formal dialogue table to address concerns, protesters initially declined the proposal.

The Governor revealed that two alternative water supply projects are being studied to ensure transparency and social acceptance. She emphasized that the administration is working to avoid the communication issues encountered during previous stages of the project. The Director General of Conagua is scheduled to visit Guanajuato to follow up on these water security efforts.
