Acámbaro rescuers investigate potential screwworm outbreak in dogs
Rescuers in El Sauz, Acámbaro, are addressing a potential outbreak of screwworm (gusano barrenador) after several dogs were found with larvae in their wounds. The presence of these parasites has caused significant concern among local residents regarding the health of their animals.
Blanca Gil Cano, a representative of the rescue group ‘Seres Sintientes Somos Tu Voz’, advised community members to clean the wounds and carefully collect the larvae in jars with alcohol. This preservation is necessary so that samples can be submitted to the National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) for official examination and confirmation of the species.
