Delhi ACP Vivek Bhagat's additional charge withheld amid harassment probe

The Delhi government has modified an administrative order to withhold the current duty charge (CDC) of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vivek Bhagat. This decision follows allegations of sexual harassment made by women journalists against Bhagat during a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 3. The protest was directed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding electoral roll irregularities.

According to the Delhi government, Bhagat requested “of his own volition” that he not assume the additional charge until a full inquiry into the harassment allegations is satisfactorily concluded. The government clarified that the original proposal to assign these temporary charges to 12 DANIPS officers was initiated on August 25, well before the current controversy. The modified order will proceed with the remaining 11 officers.

The Delhi Police has forwarded the complaints to the Crime Branch for further investigation. The allegations have drawn criticism from various groups, including the Cockroach Janta Party, which questioned the timing of the administrative assignments amid the misconduct claims.
