Acqua Novara VCO and Alfa Secure Multi‑Million Euro Funding for Italian Water Infrastructure

Acqua Novara VCO, the water utility serving Verbania and nearby towns, was awarded a €6.2 million grant from Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport under a national competition managed by Invitalia. The funding, part of the Next Generation EU programme, will finance a new sub‑aquatic intake near Villa Taranto, a key element of the company’s Agenda 2036 strategy. The overall investment totals €7.9 million, with construction slated to begin in autumn and last about 24 months, aiming to make the water supply more secure, stable and climate‑resilient.

Alfa, a regional water operator in the Valcuvia area, secured €9.2 million from the SFN IISSI fund – the water‑sector component of Italy’s PNRR. The money will enable the interconnection of the water networks of 11 municipalities, covering more than 17 000 residents. The €11.5 million project will improve pressure regulation, water quality and system resilience, especially during droughts or extreme weather events. Both initiatives illustrate how national recovery funds are being directed toward modernising Italy’s water infrastructure and enhancing supply security for local communities.
