Acquaformosa political dispute over municipal job recruitment

A political dispute has emerged in Acquaformosa regarding the recruitment of new municipal staff. Mayor Annalisa Milione has defended the decision to launch two new public competitions, noting that the municipality has not held such recruitment procedures since 1989.

The current administration has published two calls for applications: one for a school bus driver and another for an employee in the Registry Office, both for 18 hours per week. Mayor Milione argues these hires are necessary to ensure the continuity of essential services, especially as the municipal workforce has decreased from 35 employees to 19 over the last two decades.

Former Mayor Gennaro Capparelli, currently leading the ‘Uniti per Acquaformosa’ group, has criticized the move, labeling the current majority as lacking vision and claiming the new hires would impose an enormous burden on citizens. However, records from the 2023-2025 Integrated Activity and Organization Plan (PIAO), approved during Capparelli’s administration, had originally planned for the recruitment of four positions to address staffing needs.
