Acre adopts new rule requiring PND exam for temporary teacher hires
On 6 July 2026 the government of Brazil’s Acre state published a decree that will make the score from the National Teacher Exam (PND) the sole qualifying and classificatory stage for future simplified selections of temporary teachers in the state public school system. Candidates must be registered for and have taken the PND in the preceding year; those who do not meet the minimum score will be excluded. Participation in the exam does not guarantee placement in the teaching reserve or a contract, as applicants must also satisfy all conditions set out in the upcoming selection notice, which the State Secretary of Education will release in the first half of the following year. Existing reserve pools created by earlier selections will remain in force and retain priority until their validity expires.
The measure aims to streamline the hiring process for temporary teaching positions that are not covered by earlier selections or permanent public competition.
