Acre authorities intercept contraband smuggling attempts in prisons

Authorities in the state of Acre, Brazil, have intercepted multiple attempts to smuggle contraband into correctional facilities.

In Sena Madureira, prison guards at the Evaristo de Moraes unit intercepted seven mobile phones and chargers thrown over the prison walls during the early hours of a weekend. Six of the devices were capable of accessing social media and other communication services. The individuals responsible for the launch fled the scene and remain unidentified.

In Rio Branco, the Institute of Penitentiary Administration (Iapen) and the Penal Police arrested a man and a woman during an inspection at the Family Service Center. Officers discovered marijuana hidden inside a crochet thread tube and tobacco, which is a prohibited item. Both suspects confessed to attempting to deliver the materials to inmates at Pavilion K before being taken to the Central Flagrant Precinct.
