Minas Gerais police sergeant charged with feminicide of captain wife

The Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG) has formally charged a 37-year-old sergeant from the Military Police of Minas Gerais (PMMG) with the feminicide of his wife, a captain in the same corporation. The crime occurred in July this year following a social gathering at the couple's apartment.

According to the indictment presented by prosecutor Igor Bandeira e Silva, the victim, Michele Leão Azevedo, was subjected to multiple physical assaults, including being struck with a wooden stick and suffering asphyxiation. The prosecution alleges the crime was motivated by trivial reasons and involved cruel methods that hindered the victim's ability to defend herself.

In addition to feminicide, the sergeant faces charges of procedural fraud, three counts of bodily injury, and drug trafficking. The indictment notes that the victim had been assaulted by the accused on at least three previous occasions during the same month. Evidence suggests the defendant attempted to alter the crime scene by removing bloodied linens and cleaning the area to obstruct investigations.
