Acre Court orders compensation for woman burned during tanning procedure

The 2nd Civil Chamber of the Acre Court of Justice (TJAC) has ordered a company to indemnify a woman who suffered second-degree burns during an artificial tanning and ‘banho de lua’ procedure in Rio Branco.

The court ruled that the woman is entitled to R$ 8,000 in moral damages and R$ 150 in material damages, plus interest and monetary correction. The decision follows a case from April 2025 where the consumer reported that the procedure led to burns, blisters, and subsequent infections.

While the company argued that the injuries resulted from the client disobeying instructions regarding equipment usage time, the rapporteur, Judge Luís Camolez, recognized the company's objective liability. The court determined that the medical evidence and photographs established a causal link between the service provided and the physical and psychological injuries sustained.
