Acre Court upholds child support for child with Down Syndrome

The First Civil Chamber of the Court of Justice of Acre (TJAC) has upheld a decision requiring a father to pay child support equivalent to 30% of the minimum wage for a five-year-old child with Down Syndrome.

The court unanimously rejected the father's appeal to reduce the amount to R$300, citing the child's specific needs for multidisciplinary care, including physiotherapy, medical attention, and specialized pedagogical support. The judges also noted the economic impact of the mother's role, stating that her dedicated care reduces the need for third-party assistance and may limit her ability to seek remunerated work.
