Brazil: Legal rulings and security operations impact Acre and national sectors

Various judicial and law enforcement developments are occurring across Brazil, with significant focus on the state of Acre and rulings from the Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF).

In Acre, the Ministério Público (MPAC) and Military Police launched ‘Operação Colapso’ to dismantle a criminal organization, executing 75 warrants including 44 preventive arrests. Simultaneously, reports indicate a critical prison crisis in Rio Branco, where the provisional detention unit reached 258.5% occupancy, leaving a deficit of over 1,200 spaces. Additionally, human rights data shows 807 reports of daily violence in Acre between January and August 2026, with children and adolescents being the most affected group.

At the federal level, the STF has issued several key rulings. The court upheld rules requiring road transporters to contract mandatory insurance, rejecting challenges from the National Confederation of Industry. It also suspended sanctions related to psychosocial risk management in occupational norms for 90 days to allow for consensus-building. Furthermore, the STF ruled that the State of Acre cannot use temporary contracts for functions specific to the Penal Police, mandating that such roles be filled via public exams or existing permanent positions.
