Acre Fundraising Drive Targets Gene Therapy for Brothers Pedro and Tiago

Brothers Pedro and Tiago, residents of Acre, Brazil, have been diagnosed with a rare, progressive form of muscular dystrophy (type 2C). Their family is seeking roughly R$ 5.2 million (about US$ 1 million) to fund participation in a gene‑therapy clinical trial in the United States, one of only four slots worldwide.

The campaign, called “Vida para Pedro e Tiago,” has drawn support from local officials and Brazilian singers. During a recent visit, singer Nathanzinho Lima publicly endorsed the effort and thanked Governor Mailza for facilitating the outreach. In a separate event, singer Leonardo autographed a guitar that will be auctioned to raise additional funds. Donations can also be made via the Vakinha platform, a solidarity raffle, or direct Pix transfers. The initiative aims to secure the experimental treatment that could halt disease progression and improve the brothers’ quality of life.
