Acre health services face funding crisis and new care protocols

Public health services in Acre are facing significant financial and structural challenges. State Deputy Adailton Cruz reported that Hospital Santa Juliana is facing approximately three months of delayed government transfers, totaling roughly R$ 30 million in debt. Cruz warned that continued delays could force the hospital to close, severely impacting the public health network. Additionally, there are reports of a potential R$ 300 million deficit within the Acre State Health Secretariat (Sesacre).

In response to these challenges, the state of Acre has established a new protocol for palliative care within the public health system. A newly formed state group, including representatives from primary care, pharmaceutical assistance, and municipal health secretariats, will manage the integration of care levels and monitor service quality for patients with serious or life-threatening illnesses.
