Acre lacks drug-testing devices for traffic enforcement
The state of Acre has not yet implemented the use of “drogômetro” devices, which are designed to identify psychoactive substances in drivers. Despite a regulation passed by the National Traffic Council (Contran) over a month ago, there is currently no scheduled date for the start of inspections in the state.
Colonel Igor Bandeira, coordinator of the Traffic Policing Battalion (BPTran), stated that the unit is currently researching approved models to begin the bidding and procurement process. Bandeira noted that informal research suggests no other Brazilian state, nor the Federal Highway Police (PRF), currently has such equipment in continuous operation, with only experimental tests being conducted elsewhere.
The delay follows Contran Resolution No. 1.031/2026, which updated inspection procedures for alcohol and other psychoactive substances. While the norm allows for the use of technically certified equipment, it does not mandate immediate implementation by traffic agencies.
