Acre livestock program targets milk production via genetics

Senator Sérgio Petecão is supporting a genetic improvement initiative to boost milk production in Acre through the Acrean Livestock Development Program (PDPA). The project, developed by the Federal University of Acre (Ufac), focuses on combining genetic enhancement, animal management, and nutrition to increase productivity for small-scale producers.

Currently, the regional average milk production is approximately 3.18 liters per cow per day. By introducing high-standard genetics, the project aims to increase this potential to between 20 and 30 liters daily. The strategy includes the acquisition of ten high-quality embryo donors to be managed by Ufac, providing small producers with access to advanced technology and superior livestock that would otherwise be cost-prohibitive.
