Acre municipalities plan joint child welfare services

Representatives from the Brazilian municipalities of Feijó, Jordão, and Tarauacá met with the Childhood and Youth Coordination (Coinj) of the Acre Court of Justice to discuss implementing foster family services.

Currently, Tarauacá is the only municipality with an institutional care unit, which serves children and adolescents from all three cities. This concentration has overloaded Tarauacá’s local structure and compromised service capacity. To address this, the Judiciary proposed creating an intermunicipal consortium to share technical teams and divide the costs of implementing and maintaining services.

The Coinj also recommended the implementation of the 'Foster Family' program, which allows trained families to host children in their homes under judicial determination, receiving technical support and financial aid. Until a regionalized structure is finalized, Tarauacá will continue to serve as the reference unit for the three cities through a cooperation agreement involving shared expenses.
