Acre prepares forest concessions for 213,000 hectares

The state of Acre is advancing a project to grant concessions for three state forests in Tarauacá, covering approximately 213,000 hectares of native vegetation. The initiative includes the Mogno, Rio Gregório, and Rio Liberdade forests.

In partnership with the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), the project aims to implement sustainable forest management techniques to allow for the legal extraction of timber while maintaining biodiversity and environmental services. BNDES will lead the structural studies required to define the concession models, including assessments of forest conditions, logistics, economic viability, and legal aspects.

The results of these studies will form the basis for a future public bidding process. Drafts of the bidding notice are expected to be presented for public consultation in 2027.
