ACRE project wins National Restoration Prize for Valencia DANA recovery

Spain's Ministry of Culture has awarded the 2026 National Prize for Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Property to the 'Memorias y Patrimonios Personales' project. The initiative was led by the Association of Conservators and Restaurators of Spain (ACRE).

The project was established to recover personal cultural assets and historical documents damaged during the DANA weather emergency in Valencia on October 29, 2024. Beyond physical restoration, the jury noted the project's role in supporting the collective emotional recovery of affected communities.

To date, the program has intervened in 235 items across 17 municipalities. The recovered heritage includes a variety of materials such as ceramics, sculptures, musical instruments, textiles, paintings, and graphic documents.
