Acre Public Ministry investigates Jordão cemetery risks
The Public Ministry of Acre (MPAC) has opened a civil inquiry to investigate the municipal cemetery in Jordão. Inspections revealed that the facility is at full capacity and is located in an area prone to flooding near the Tarauacá River.
Technical assessments from the Acre Institute of Environment (Imac) confirmed the site fails to meet minimum technical parameters and poses environmental and sanitary risks due to its proximity to residential areas and watercourses. While the local administration attempted to hire environmental consultancy to find a new location, the procurement process failed after no proposals were submitted. The MPAC is now seeking proof of effective measures to address these structural and environmental concerns.
