Acre reports highest rate of domestic violence by partners in Brazil

A new edition of the National Survey on Violence against Women, conducted by the DataSenado Institute in partnership with the Senate Federal Observatory of Women against Violence, reveals high rates of domestic abuse in Acre, Brazil.

In Acre, 34% of women reported experiencing concrete situations of violence in the last 12 months but did not spontaneously identify these experiences as domestic or family violence. This rate is among the highest in the country, following Alagoas (36%) and Amazonas (35%), compared to a national average of 29%.

The study, which surveyed 21,641 women nationwide, highlights a significant gap in recognition: while one in three Brazilian women experienced domestic violence in the last year, only 4% spontaneously recognized themselves as victims.

Furthermore, the data shows that in Acre, husbands or partners were identified as the aggressors in 73% of cases, the highest percentage recorded among Brazilian states and significantly above the national average of 62%. Experts note that the inability to recognize abuse as violence serves as a major barrier to accessing protection networks.
