Acre state schools face school meal shortages

Public schools in the Brazilian state of Acre are facing a severe shortage of school meals, affecting students in both Rio Branco and Cruzeiro do Sul. At Colégio Estadual Armando Nogueira in the capital, students were released early on Monday due to a lack of protein in the meals provided.

In Cruzeiro do Sul, students at the Maria de Nazaré Santiago full-time school reported that food supplies are often insufficient and lack variety, frequently consisting only of eggs and biscuits. Students noted that the lack of adequate nutrition makes it difficult to remain at school for the full duration of their integral curriculum.

State Deputy Edvaldo Magalhães has denounced the situation, citing systemic deficiencies within the State Secretariat of Education (SEE). He highlighted that these issues follow recent Federal Police operations involving the Secretariat regarding school meals, transportation, and a digital platform for high school students.
