Acrean students and athletes achieve historic milestones

Students from the Instituto Federal do Acre (IFAC), Tarauacá campus, have achieved a historic milestone by winning a bronze medal in the 18th National History Olympiad of Brazil (ONHB). The team, named ‘Ampulhetas do Passado’, competed against over 250,000 participants nationwide in the competition organized by the University of Campinas (Unicamp). This marks the first time a team from Tarauacá has reached the in-person final stage of the olympiad.

In sports, Acrean para-athlete João Fernando Fontenelle secured three medals at the Brazilian University Games (JUBs) in Goiânia. Fontenelle won gold in both shot put and discus throw, and silver in javelin throw. A geography student at the Federal University of Acre (Ufac), Fontenelle is considered a rising talent in Brazilian paralympic athletics.
