ACS subsidiary begins $1.9 billion seismic reinforcement of California's Anderson Dam

FlatironDragados, a subsidiary of ACS, and Sukut Construction have commenced seismic reinforcement works on the Anderson Dam in Morgan Hill, California. The project is valued at approximately $1.9 billion (€1.624 billion).

The construction aims to improve the dam's ability to withstand a major earthquake, allowing the reservoir to return to normal operating levels. The scope of work includes reconstructing the dam body and spillway, installing new drainage infrastructure, and implementing road, utility, and environmental improvements.

As the largest surface reservoir in Santa Clara County, the Anderson Dam is critical for water supply, groundwater recharge, and flood protection for nearly two million residents. In 2020, the managing public agency, Valley Water, reduced the reservoir level to 3% capacity due to seismic safety concerns. Additionally, FlatironDragados is nearing completion of a 518-meter-long tunnel designed to serve as a bottom outlet for reservoir level control.
