ACT Policing seizes vehicles during rural Canberra crackdown

ACT Policing conducted a crackdown on dangerous driving and ‘hooning’ in the rural areas of Canberra over the nights of September 18 and 19. The operation targeted burnout drivers and anti-social behavior along the western fringe of the territory, including Uriarra Road, Cotter Road, and Brindabella Road.

During the operation, officers issued 76 traffic fines and 45 defect notices. Three vehicles were seized for improper use. Police also identified two drivers under the influence of alcohol and five drivers under the influence of drugs. Additionally, one man was arrested on an outstanding warrant, and another man, who was subject to bail conditions, was charged with driving while disqualified and possessing an offensive weapon.

Detective Inspector Mark Steel, Officer in Charge of Road Policing, stated that the activity is “totally unacceptable” to rural communities and poses a significant risk to community safety. He noted that police will continue proactive patrols and enforcement to target such behavior.
