ActBlue faces fraud allegations amid congressional investigations
Progressive candidates continue to utilize the fundraising platform ActBlue despite ongoing congressional investigations and allegations of fraud. The platform, which has raised over $19 billion for Democratic and progressive causes since 2004, is currently under scrutiny by a joint House committee involving the Administration, Judiciary, and Oversight and Government Reform committees.
Investigations have focused on allegations of illicit foreign donations and a failure to prevent fraudulent activity. A recent report from the joint committees suggested that ActBlue has become ‘more lenient’ regarding fraud. One specific case highlighted involves an 88-year-old woman in Michigan whose name was cited by ActBlue as having donated over $150,000 across 1,500 donations, a claim the individual has denied, stating she lacks such funds.
Recipients of funds processed through the platform include high-profile figures such as Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders, as well as thousands of candidates at the state, county, and school district levels.
