ActBlue faces GOP investigation over alleged foreign donations
House Republicans are continuing an investigation into ActBlue, a major Democratic fundraising platform, following allegations that the company accepted illegal foreign donations and misled Congress regarding its security safeguards.
Reports indicate that ActBlue employees may have approved contributions despite concerns regarding donor identities or locations. Internal communications suggest the platform processed donations from foreign IP addresses in locations including Canada, Hong Kong, Switzerland, and Venezuela. Critics argue that the platform’s verification processes were insufficient, noting that some checks failed to cross-reference passport details against government databases.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer stated that the investigation is far from over and that more documents and testimony are expected. Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan also confirmed that aggressive oversight will continue to determine if the platform’s actions violated federal election laws. ActBlue has denied wrongdoing and stated it has strengthened its donor-verification controls.
