A notable case involves 88‑year‑old Elizabeth Waffle of Milan, Michigan, whose name appears on roughly 12,900 donations totaling about $100,000 across several election cycles, raising concerns about donor verification.

State election officials and federal lawmakers have opened inquiries into possible security gaps, including the use of stolen personal data or automated tools to route contributions through ActBlue. The company says it has reviewed the relevant data, contacted the affected donor, blocked suspicious accounts, issued refunds where appropriate and reported alleged fraud to authorities, while emphasizing its fraud‑detection systems and cooperation with investigators.
