Action Against Hunger responds to 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Colombia

Action Against Hunger has activated an emergency response following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10. The earthquake's epicenter was located in San José del Palmar, within the Chocó department.

The organization has deployed 15 professionals to coordinate assistance in Quibdó and surrounding rural areas. Quibdó has reportedly sustained some of the most severe damage and a high number of injuries. Due to communication disruptions and access difficulties in various municipalities, the full extent of the damage remains uncertain.

Emergency supplies are being deployed to address needs in water, sanitation, hygiene, food security, and shelter. Available resources include 772 hygiene kits, 470 water filtration systems, a water treatment plant capable of serving 2,000 people, 324 food parcels, and 200 shelter kits. The organization also has the capacity to provide up to 550 cash transfers to affected families.
