Action expands to over 3,300 stores across 14 European countries
Action, the Dutch discount retailer founded in 1993 by Gerard Deen and Rob Wagemaker, has expanded from a single store in Enkhuizen to a major European presence with over 3,300 branches. The company currently operates in 14 European countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, and Romania.
As of 2025, the company manages 18 distribution centers and four hubs across Europe, having added new facilities in Germany, Poland, and Italy in 2025. Action serves approximately 21.6 million customers weekly. The retailer has also seen digital success, with its mobile app reaching 10 million downloads in the third quarter of 2025.
In terms of sustainability, Action reported a 56 percent reduction in its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions since 2021 through the use of green electricity and HVO100 biofuel. In its home market of the Netherlands, the company was honored with the "Golden Scaler Award" in 2025 as the country's fastest-growing company.
