Action's weekly stock rotation draws 20 million shoppers across Europe
Dutch discount chain Action rotates its product range at a rapid pace, offering roughly 6,000 items but keeping only about one‑third permanently on the shelves. Around 150 new products are introduced each week while a similar number of older items are removed, creating a “treasure‑hunt” shopping experience.
The strategy attracts more than 20 million visitors to Action stores weekly across Europe, with France hosting the most outlets and naming the chain the country’s favourite retailer from 2023 to 2026. CEO Hajir Hajji, who rose from a teenage shop assistant, highlights the approach as a way to encourage repeat visits without traditional advertising.
Action also emphasizes sustainability, being a major buyer of FSC‑certified wood, cutting its own CO₂ emissions by 56 % since 2021 through renewable electricity and bio‑fuel logistics, employing staff from 166 nations and operating 18 distribution centres throughout the continent.
