Active & Equal project addresses women's health in sport

The European project ‘Active & Equal: Women’s health in sport across generations’ is set to run from January 2026 through the end of 2027. Co-financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe, the initiative focuses on the physiological, psychological, and social factors that present specific challenges to girls and women in sports.

Key areas of study include menstruation, menopause, and the specialized knowledge required by trainers, educators, and health experts to support female athletes. The project aims to bring these topics into public discourse to create safer, more inclusive environments for women in all life stages.

Planned measures include a Europe-wide analysis to identify existing barriers, which will form the basis for national and European reports. Additionally, a ‘Women’s Health in Sport Toolkit’ will be developed to provide scientifically grounded, practical information for daily athletic life. Olympic bronze medalist Mirna Jukić-Berger will serve as the Austrian ambassador for the project, which is led by the Austrian Ministry of Sport.
