Activision launches Black Ops 1 and 2 ports for PlayStation 4 and 5

Activision announced a surprise digital release of Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) and Black Ops 2 (2012) for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on July 10. The ports were developed by Iron Galaxy Studios, are native PlayStation builds rather than remasters, and retain the original graphics, resolution and frame‑rate limits of the 2010‑12 releases.

Each title sells for €59 (≈ $40) on the PlayStation Store, with a temporary PlayStation Plus discount of 50 % (€29.50) until 7 August. Season‑pass DLC packs are sold separately, adding roughly €30 per game. The games lack cross‑play, 120 Hz support, or visual upgrades such as higher‑resolution textures. Critics, including Digital Foundry, highlighted technical shortcomings – limited 1080p output, unchanged shadows and occasional performance drops – calling the ports “bare‑bones” adaptations.

Despite the criticism, the titles quickly rose to the top of the PS Store sales chart within hours, driven by nostalgia. Activision confirmed no plans to release the ports on Nintendo Switch or other platforms, focusing solely on PlayStation consoles.
