Activision shuts down Call of Duty browser emulation project
Activision has issued a DMCA takedown notice against an unofficial project that aimed to bring classic Call of Duty experiences to web browsers. The legal action has resulted in the immediate shutdown of servers and the removal of all public materials related to the project.
One of the primary developers, known as Luckey Faraday, confirmed the shutdown on X. The project included unofficial browser-based reconstructions inspired by titles such as Black Ops II and Black Ops Zombies, allowing users to play versions of the games without local installations. Faraday stated, “Activision just DMCA’d me for porting CoD games to the browser. They nuked every post, and every game is now offline.”
The project, which included a reconstruction titled “Claude of Duty: Vibe Slops II,” explicitly stated it had no affiliation with Activision, Treyarch, Microsoft, or Anthropic. This enforcement action is part of Activision's broader efforts to protect its intellectual property and prevent unauthorized distribution or modification of its classic game code.
