Activision to develop new Call of Duty sub-series

Activision is developing a new sub-series within the Call of Duty franchise to expand its universe. Tyler Bahl, Activision’s head of marketing, confirmed that the company has laid the groundwork for a future title that will launch this new sub-series rather than being a standalone release.

Bahl also addressed the media coverage of the franchise, suggesting that Call of Duty faces a “tax” in how it is reported. He argued that because the series has been successful for so long, the industry and media often underestimate the massive effort required for development, noting that 4,500 employees work on the games. He highlighted the franchise's scale, citing 500 million copies sold and 100 million free-to-play players.

While details regarding the new sub-series remain undisclosed, Activision is currently focused on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which is expected to release on October 23, 2026.
