Japanese actor and narrator Leo Morimoto passed away on September 4, 2026, at the age of 83. His management agency, Wutania, reported that his death was a sudden, unexplained event, though he appeared peaceful.

Morimoto was widely recognized for his unique, soothing voice, notably serving as the long-time narrator for the Japanese version of ‘Thomas & Friends’. His career spanned decades, with notable roles in television dramas such as ‘Shomuni’ and appearances in various variety shows like ‘Q-sama!!’.

Following the announcement, public reactions have been mixed. While many fans have shared tributes praising his ‘healing voice’ and professional contributions, the news has also reignited discussions regarding past allegations of sexual misconduct. These include claims made by actresses Aki Mizusawa in 2002 and Mariko Ishihara in 2006, both of whom alleged they were subjected to non-consensual sexual encounters under the guise of acting instruction. Morimoto had previously acknowledged relationships with the women but denied any use of force or coercion.
