Actor Ashraful Haq Don jailed in Salman Shah murder case

Actor Ashraful Haq, popularly known as Don, has been sent to prison following his arrest in connection with the murder case of popular film star Salman Shah. The decision was made on Sunday afternoon by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Jewel Rana after a hearing involving the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Don was apprehended at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by immigration authorities while attempting to travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah. He was detained due to an existing travel ban related to the case. During the court proceedings, the prosecution alleged that Don, along with other accomplices, conspired to murder Salman Shah. Specifically, the prosecution claimed that a plan was made to kill the actor for 1.2 million BDT, initially making the death appear as a suicide.

Salman Shah died on September 6, 1996. While his death was initially recorded as a suicide, a murder case was subsequently filed following long-standing investigations and public scrutiny. Don is identified as the fourth accused in the case.
