Actor Devan resigns from BJP and Kerala state vice-presidency

Malayalam actor Devan has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stepping down from his position as the party's Kerala state vice-president and relinquishing his primary membership. The announcement was made during an event at the Kanichukulangara Devi temple in Alappuzha.

Devan cited ideological differences as the primary reason for his departure, stating that the party's political direction did not align with his views. Specifically, he noted an inability to see the principles of social reformer Sree Narayana Guru reflected in the party's current politics.

Having joined the BJP in March 2021, Devan had been an active participant in several electoral campaigns, including those for Suresh Gopi and Rajeev Chandrasekhar. He indicated that he had been considering his resignation for several months and had previously raised certain demands with the party leadership that remained unaddressed. He has not yet announced his future political direction.
