Actor Jake Speer Cast as Mrs. Doubtfire in Australian Musical Premiere
Australian actor Jake Speer, a Leeton‑raised performer best known for his role as Oscar MacGuire on *Home and Away*, has been cast in the lead role of Mrs. Doubtfire for the stage musical debut. The production, based on the 1993 Robin Williams film, will open at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre on 25 November.
Speer said the part was “a dream come true,” adding that the story “makes people laugh, but at its heart it’s about love, family and going to extraordinary lengths for the people you care about.” The musical also features the character of the ex‑wife’s new suitor, originally portrayed by Pierce Brosnan in the film. In addition to his television work, Speer has directed a concert for the reopening of Leeton’s Roxy Theatre and been involved in local film and drama projects.
The casting marks the actor’s first major lead in a large‑scale musical production, bringing the beloved Mrs. Doubtfire character to Australian stages for the first time.
