Raymond Lei, Hong Kong horror icon, dies at 62
Hong Kong actor Raymond Lei, widely known by the nickname ‘Ghost King’ for his roles in horror films such as the ‘Troublesome Night’ series, has passed away at the age of 62. His death was confirmed by his wife, Ma Li, a mainland television presenter.
Lei passed away on September 7 in Guangzhou due to complications from stomach cancer. While he had previously undergone successful treatment for cancer, the disease reportedly recurred. Friends and colleagues noted that he had also struggled with throat cancer, which had significantly affected his ability to speak and left his voice raspy.
After graduating from the TVB artist training class in 1988, Lei built a career in both film and radio, hosting popular programs like ‘Banana Club’. In recent years, he had largely stepped away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry to live in Guangzhou, where he transitioned into the business sector and operated restaurants.
