Actor Michael Gray, star of ‘Shazam!’, dies at 75

Michael Gray, the actor best known for portraying Billy Batson in the 1970s television series ‘Shazam!’, has died at the age of 75. He passed away from natural causes on Friday in Palm Desert, California.

The superhero series, which aired for three seasons between 1974 and 1976, featured Gray as a teenager who transformed into Captain Marvel. Gray’s role made him a prominent teen idol during the 1970s. His career included appearances in various television programs such as ‘The Brady Bunch’, ‘Dynasty’, ‘The Flying Nun’, and ‘The Little People’.

Following the conclusion of ‘Shazam!’, Gray stepped away from acting for a period to work in men’s fashion, children’s theatre education, and a floral business with his wife, Stacy. He later returned to the spotlight through fan conventions and appearances in ‘Archer’ and ‘Comic Book Men’. His final connection to the franchise was a cameo in the 2023 film ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’.
