Actor Nam Kyung-ju to face jury trial for student sexual assault charges

Musical actor Nam Kyung-ju will face a national participation trial in November regarding allegations of sexual assault against a student. The Seoul Central District Court announced that the trial will be held over two days, on November 27 and 30.

The core dispute involves whether a supervisory or protective relationship existed between Nam and the victim at the time of the incident. Nam's legal team requested the jury-based trial to seek a judgment based on public common sense, while the victim's counsel expressed opposition, citing the need to protect the victim's interests in sexual violence cases.

Nam, a veteran actor with a 40-year career, was indicted for allegedly using his social status to assault a female student in Seocho-gu, Seoul, last December. Following the allegations, Hongik University relieved him of his position as an associate professor in the Department of Performing Arts.
