Actor Nicholas Pinnock calls for James Bond to remain unchanged

Actor Nicholas Pinnock has expressed his view that the James Bond character should remain a white, male figure to maintain the identity established over generations. Speaking to the Radio Times, the BBC and ABC actor argued against changing the character's race or sex, suggesting that such changes might feel like 'box-ticking.'

Pinnock compared the situation to iconic characters like Mr. T’s BA Baracus, noting that changing the race of established figures often causes public outrage. He stated that he grew up with Bond as an English, Scottish, or Irish man with a specific persona and believes the character should stay true to those roots.

While advocating for the traditional portrayal of 007, Pinnock emphasized that film studios should invest in other major blockbusters featuring actors from diverse backgrounds, such as Idris Elba or Dev Patel, rather than altering existing icons.
