Veteran Indian Actor Pradeep Rawat Dies at 74 After Cancer Battle

Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat died on 4 August 2026 in Mumbai at the age of 74 after a prolonged battle with blood cancer. He was first widely recognised for playing Ashwatthama in B. R. Chopra’s television series *Mahabharat* and later became one of Indian cinema’s most memorable villains, notably as Deva Singh Sodhi in *Lagaan* and the title antagonist in *Ghajini*.

Rawat’s four‑decade career spanned Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Nepali and other regional films, with notable performances in *Sye*, *Chatrapathi*, *Sarfarosh* and many others. Following his death, co‑stars and industry figures posted tributes: Aamir Khan called him “fearless” and said *Ghajini* “wouldn’t have worked without him”; Salman Khan shared an emotional Instagram story; Yashpal Sharma announced the news on Instagram; and the All Indian Cine Workers Association issued a formal condolence.

His body lay in state at Imperial Heights, Goregaon West, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. before cremation at the Oshiwara Bridge, Jogeshwari West.
